Reintroducing Radiating with Resilience: Living After a Breast Cancer Diagnosis
In just a few months, I will celebrate five years of remission after consecutive breast cancer diagnoses.
For two years, I gave everything I had to endure surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy, countless scans, and quarterly appointments. Ringing the bell marked the end of treatment, but life did not simply return to what it was before cancer. And I did not return to the woman I was before hearing the words, “I’m sorry to say this, but you have cancer.”
What I’ve learned is that life after a cancer diagnosis requires intention. Mentally, physically, and spiritually, you are changed. For a long time, I longed to be the “old me.” But the harder I tried to return to who I was, the more frustrated I became.
Over time, I began to accept that healing meant embracing the new me. One step at a time, I learned that I had the power to build resilience and become an even stronger version of myself.
Acupuncture helped ease the pain. Workouts brought physical strength and mental clarity. Counseling and journaling helped me work through the emotional weight I carried. My faith and my family restored my confidence and reminded me that, even as I moved forward through uncertainty, everything would be okay.
With every step, I grew into the new version of myself—one who appreciates the gift of life and finds meaning in the journey. Even now, I challenge myself to breathe through both the good and the hard moments, stay present, and resist getting too far ahead.
Radiating Resilience is a space for motivation, encouragement, and practical support as we navigate life’s challenges. Here, I’ll share my own struggles, lessons, and triumphs—and I invite you to share yours, too.
Thank you for being here. I’m so grateful to be on this journey with you.
